About 2,000 truck drivers ordered to retake tests

About 2,000 truck drivers will have to retake their commercial driving tests because they got licenses without examiners watching them drive, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Two Arrested in Auto Insurance Fraud Sting

Two auto body repair shop owners were arrested in a sting against auto insurance fraud, Suffolk cops said at a press conference on Friday.

Police say Steve Morales, 45, and Brian Bogart, 43, were enhancing and adding damage to cars brought into their body shops for repair to increase insurance company payouts. Both suspects also allegedly billed insurance companies for auto repair work that was either unnecessary or not done at all. In addition, insurance companies were billed for replacement parts that were supposedly new that were actually used.

The two publishers analyzed vehicle selling prices, sales incentive programs, and the times models spent on dealer lots, in order to arrive at its ten hottest car list, confirming just how much Toyota currently dominates the market.

Toyota, which was shown to be gaining six new car buyers for every one it loses in a J. D. Power and Associates owner retention study from last year, achieved top marks for its Prius hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), the hottest new car currently available. Prius is currently earning Toyota U.S. dealers 10 percent over its Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $21,725 - $28,615 plus $580 freight. Also, the Prius spends an average of nine days on a dealers lot before being purchased.

Ice cream truck robbed

Police in Raleigh are looking for two bicycle-riding teens accused of robbing an ice cream truck driver Sunday evening.

The Raleigh News & Observer reported that the teens approached an ice cream truck parked in southeast Raleigh and stole a cash box from the driver after flashing a knife.

Police say the suspects rode off on their bicycles and did not harm the truck driver.
The suspects are described as being males, 17 or 18 years old.

Washington DC March 20, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that auto dealers and lenders continue to increase the length of car loans as a result of an increase in consumers who demand low monthly payments, reports Automotive News.

A report by the Consumer Bankers Association said loans greater than 60 months accounted for 55.3 percent of its members' new vehicle loans in 2005, up 10 percent from the previous year. According to the paper," longer loan terms enable customers to buy pricier vehicles at an acceptable monthly payment. That can mean fatter profits for automakers, dealers and lenders.

Geico Accused of Unfair Auto Insurance Rates

Geico is being accused of charging blue collar workers nearly twice as much for car insurance as better-educated professionals.

The Consumer Federation of America has charged that Chevy Chase-based Geico uses drivers' levels of education and occupation to set rates. The group called on insurance regulators to bar the practice.

But Geico denies the allegation that it uses education and line of work as sole factors. The company says it uses many different criteria to set rates, and people of all education levels are offered their best rate.

Four teenage boys suspected of stealing at least 18 cars from two Redlands shopping centers here over a three-month period face charges of grand-theft auto and running a chop-shop operation from one of their homes.

The boys - three 17-year-olds and a 16-year old, all San Bernardino residents - used shaved keys to steal mostly 1990s-model Honda Civics and several Acura Integras from the Wal-Mart shopping center on Redlands Boulevard and at Citrus Plaza on Lugonia Avenue between October and December.

They are scheduled to appear in San Bernardino Juvenile Court April 10 for arraignment, said Detective Mike Reiss of the Redlands Police Department.

Two men are in police custody after a routine traffic stop turned into a major drug bust, police said.

Gary Gray, of Columbus, and Johnnie Fleming, of West Virginia, were arrested in St. Louis last weekend, NBC 4 reported.

Police stopped the two men while they were driving, pulling a 1956 Chevrolet truck on a car trailer.

Inside the truck, police said, officers found more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $1.8 million.

Investigators said the men were driving to Columbus from Tucson, Ariz.

The men were now in custody of the DEA.

A BAHRAINI man was detained in custody yesterday after six Indian labourers who claim he locked them in a freezer truck for more than 24 hours filed a complaint, said the Indian Embassy. The man, who is also accused of assaulting several of the workers, will be held in detention for at least a week while police carry out further investigation into the claims, Indian Ambassador Balkrishna Shetty told the GDN.

The workers were released from the freezer truck, found abandoned in a Hamad Town scrap yard, by Hamad Town police acting on a tip-off.

The men are believed to have been kidnapped and imprisoned by their enraged Bahraini sponsor, who is also said to have previously kidnapped and assaulted a friend of theirs.

I have wondered myself before how big is to big of custom rims? Can you have to much bling bling? I personally say no. Do not get me wrong, there is some cars that do not need rims on them. I personally went with 20 inch rims on my ride. I did not want to go bigger. But what if I did?

It is classier inside and out, a little roomier in most ways and boasts improved fuel economy.

Yet despite the commendable upgrades, it simply might be the wrong product for these times of pricey fuel.

It gets good mileage by the loose standards of beefy SUVs. The '07 Tahoe is rated as much as 22 miles per gallon on the highway in government tests, up from a best of 20 mpg for the '06 model.

PITTSBURGH-January 19, 2006 - A Pittsburgh woman who won a radio contest to customize her truck says the truck has been customized so much, she can't drive it.

Colleen Kuczinski is suing Clear Channel Communications and radio station WKST FM for breach of contract.
She says she thought her 1986 Chevy S-Ten pickup would get a new paint job and stereo and that the customization work she won through the "Freak My Ride" contest would only be cosmetic.

Instead, she says, her truck underwent extensive mechanical alterations, including an improperly installed suspension. She says the truck is beautiful, but can't be driven.

In the back of my head I just wonder if this is a older lady who is now driving a lowered s10 truck so it is bumpy and she thinks the suspension was not properly installed? She admited the truck looked good. About any vehicle that is lowered with rims will not ride well. I just wonder if this is the case?
